(EN) RusClub is a platform for Russian cinema. Alexandra Dementieva selects two Russian movies and guides you through the history of Russian cinema. RusClub takes place at Plateau, Rue du Berger 30 Herdersstraat in Ixelles, Elsene. The doors open at 7:30pm and the first movie starts at 8pm.

RusClub #9 takes place on Tuesday 7 October and the movies that will be shown are:

1. Jews in the Land (Евреи на земле)  (1927) by Abram Room (documentary, 17 min)

Soviet propaganda film dedicated to the development of land and the northern Black Sea coast of Crimea by Jewish colonists.”

2. Strict younker  (Строгий юноша) (1935) by Abram Room (94 min)

„Philosophical romantic drama about love and jealousy in the coming perfect classless society, based on the eponymous movie play Y. K. Olesha.

This film shows a strange mixture of sophisticated decadence and a carnally festive perception of reality as if poured into the air. This is all combined with the spirit of Soviet aesthetics, Komsomol sports parades and optimistic attitudes to the rainbow-socialist world at a time when he had already begun to fall off into the abyss. Far from being a magnificent and majestic "Stalinist Baroque", which was formed in the same years, and even more strange symbiosis "Stalin decadence", imbued with overt sensuality and sophistication platonic passion at the same time.

The film caused dull irritation of the authorities and of Stalin and was banned.”
