178 rue Gallaitstraat - 1030 Bruxelles
[EN] The Shop is a local shop project on microeconomics and barter economy that is open to a range of initiatives and artists. The aim is also to establish partnerships with various cultural partners which work along the same lines as the shop. The temporary shopkeepers are required to further develop projects involving, on the one hand, the local neighbourhood and, on the other, the public and the artist’s own network. We are thus looking for public-oriented projects which will be open during half of the two-month residencies (on average). Barter, alternative currency units, new economic systems, etc. are all part of the shop’s possibilities. 178 rue Gallaitstraat – 1030 Brussels
Gallaitstraat 80 rue Gallait (derrière Le Kriekelaar) – 1030 Brussels
[EN] Wasteland is a local garden project in 1030 Brussels in which a model garden for vertical gardening was set up in 2010 and where the focus in 2011 will be on the further technical development of these systems. Technical and creative training sessions will be organized on irrigation systems and garden terraces. [EN] Resilients brings together six European organisations and their networks, to address the issue of cultural resilience by strengthening intercultural diversity and exchange. The purpose of the project is to form an inspiring basis for establishment of a pan-European ‘guild of resilients’ – a fellowship for learning, experimentation and reflection on atemporal and resilient creative practices. ‘Resilients’ are cultural workers of all ages preparing for uncertain futures, by studying and experimenting with new models of living and working as a form of artistic practice.
This community of Resilients is the primary target group of the project. The methods used to attract and support this community allows people of varied backgrounds - from experts to enthusiasts - to access the principles of cultural resilience. The support methods include apprenticeships (internships, workshops), journeys (itinerant residencies & field-work) and case studies (thematic projects, studies and experiments). The secondary target group are ‘potential Resilients’ - members of the general public who could be inspired and actively involved in increasing resilience in their own lives and communities. These people are reached through public events (festival, seminars, public experiments), meetups (thematic discussion groups) and publications (Resilients website and handbook).
Each partner organisation brings a specific approach to resilience, that enriches transnational collaborations. The project provides the partners with a structured network to empower cultural workers to deliver a range of creative outputs across Europe, as well as functioning as a compelling narrative to engage with diverse public contexts.
This project is supported by the European Culture 2007-2013 Program.
[EN] Euroaxacan Inititative of Transformative Cultures (EITC) is a European-Mexican collaboration which connects art and traditional – as well as future – crafts, while bridging the gap between the digital, mediated and corporeal world. The overall aim is to function as a catalyst of socio-economic transformations induced by transcultural production.
EITC centres on the community workshops of the township of Zegache Sta Ana, state of Oaxaca, Mexico – renowned for restoration of traditional artefacts, as well as contemporary artists’ interventions. The community workshops fulfil a crucial role in the creation of work opportunities and the establishment of an economic outlook for socially-challenged rural areas.
EITC extends the current activities of the community workshops to include electronics, digital media and permaculture. Cultural production is intertwined with business development in order to guarantee a sustainable continuation of the project. The goal is to create an example with international relevance of how to encourage artistic creation, protect cul- tural identities and secure sustainable local economies.
